Okoumefest 2013

Okoume start
On the beach, competitors assemble and get ready for the start. Promptly at 0700, boats are launched from above the high-water line to begin traversing the 64-mile course over 1-2 days. In the foreground, Phil (aka Badger) is readying gear for the trip. The yellow tubes under the hull of "Sea Dart" allow the 600 lb boat to be easily pushed into the water.
OkoumeMap
This year, CLC paired up with Watertribe to sponsor a 64-mile race, an Ultramarathon," around the Eastern Neck, Kent and Wye islands. There were several bridges, significant expanses of shallow water, and the Kent Narrows to navigate. Kent Narrows is known for powerful tidal currents, and timing the currents is crucial for powerboats and yachts, let alone the little craft taking part in this race!
